GAS SAFETY & MAINTENANCE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY GAS APPLIANCES BE SERVICED?

Most manufacturers recommend annual servicing. This keeps your warranty valid, maintains efficiency, and ensures flues, burners, and safety controls are functioning correctly.

CAN I SWITCH FROM LPG BOTTLES TO NATURAL GAS?

Yes. If your street has reticulated supply, we can size a new regulator and run a connection from the network to your meter position, then certify any appliance conversions required.

DOES A GAS HOT‑WATER CONTINUOUS‑FLOW UNIT NEED ELECTRICITY?

It uses a small amount of power for the ignition and control board. During a power cut the unit will not fire, but we can discuss battery‑backup or vent‑free alternatives if uninterrupted hot water is essential.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF A GAS LEAK INSIDE THE HOUSE?

Typical indicators include a sulphur or “rotten egg” smell, white mist near joints, hissing sounds, or unexplained higher gas bills. Evacuate the area, isolate the supply, and ring us for an urgent inspection.

DO I NEED A BUILDING CONSENT FOR A NEW GAS FIREPLACE?

In most Auckland districts, indoor flued heaters and any new external pipework penetration require building consent. Build NZ handles the paperwork, council liaison, and final Code of Compliance sign‑off for you.
